Which brands do you folks use??

I’m a little concerned about spraying “chemicals” on my food during the cleaning process……

Thanks!

I spray it first with Hydrogen peroxide, and then with white vinegar. Let sit and rinse.

    I use Dr. Bronner’s soap, diluted 40 to 1.

I use FIT and like it alot. It really cleans the gunk off strawberries and other fruits and veggies. It is made from grapefruit oil, so I hope it is “safe” to use. Does anybody know?

I just spray it on the fruit or vegetable and let it sit for a few minutes while I am preparing something else. You’d be amazed at what comes off when you finally wash/rinse the produce.

It is kinda pricy, though. I wish I could find a good deal on it because I go through a lot.

I use Fit spray and I think that it works well. It can be a little expensive but at Walmart I can buy a larger refill bottle for a better price.

I fill up a huge bowl with water and put in 4-5 drops of DoTerra Lemon Essential Oil. I let my fruits and veggies sit in that for a few minutes, then take them out. I hate the nasty film at the bottom when I pull my fruits and veggies out, but I’m glad it’s there and not on my fruit!

hey robyn—are you doing group buys for the 64oz blendtec containers? if so–how much are they normally and how much could you get them for? is it something that seems likely in the near future? (like 6mo?!) THANKS

  7. Leslee says:

Does anyone know where to buy food grade hydrogen peroxide?

  8. Robyn Openshaw Robyn says:

I don’t have a way to get 64 oz. BlendTec containers for cheap, sorry.

I use Shaklee Basic H from a distributor I know as a fruit/veggie wash. A gallon lasts me at least 10 years.

  9. Phil says:

    Robyn,

I like Basic H as well.

    What concentration do you use?

  10. Cris Melo says:

In a recent trip to Trader Joes I read the bottle of TJ brand of Castile soap and was surprised to know the many uses. I felt dumb for buying a bottle of veggie cleaner for $4 when I can actually dilute this stuff to make veggie cleaner and have it last much longer, and can also wash my hair with it. As someone before me mentioned it, Dr. Brommers is the same stuff, different brand.

Catching up on this topic, sorry so late.

Helpful stuff about the veggie wash concepts.

Castile and Bonners apparently gives a dilution chart for veggie wash.

Robyn, what about the Shaklee Basic H?

What (after getting the garden poisons, critter leavings, mildews, and rot washed off) kinds of water quality do you do the final rinse in? What is the very least “clean” (no chlorine, etc) water to use last? There are products that change the chlorine to a non poison state… are they worth the trouble?

Best is to have good water, but how to overcome chlorinated water is the point?

Any help for this topic is welcome. Thanks, Ed t

I rinse in chlorinated water. What you shower/bathe in is the biggest deal of all, since you absorb chlorine through the skin very easily. Drinking water is the second-biggest deal. I just don’t choose to worry about rinse water.

I use about a tablespoon of Basic H in a big spray bottle of water. I’m not very precise.

  13. Jay says:

I use SaniDate Fruit and Vegetable wash, its an organic sanitizer that is based off of activated peroxide chemistry. Essentially water and oxygen are used to break down filth and then biodegrades leaving no residuals. This product is amazing because it actually kills human health pathogens like E. Coli, Staph or even the common flu.

Got something to say? Go for it!
