Surgery

I am having surgery in a week and a half to repair a labral tear in my hip. Is there anything I can take to prepare my body and also to help it recover? I never take any medications, so this will be new to be taking “drugs.”

Thank you!
Meghan

Homeopathic arnica will help keep bruising down, vitamin C (or lots of green smoothies with lemon peel and citrus fruits, etc) will keep tissue young, vibrant, and repairing itself.

Homeopathic staphysagria is the best homeopathic to prepare for and recover from surgery. HTH

Should I take the antibiotics they give me or go with the more natural approach?

    Meghan,

No one is likely to tell you to forego drugs as there are plenty of agencies ready to jump on anyone who would dare do that.

If you do take the antibiotics, eat kefir/yogurt or take probiotics very diligently for at least 30 days afterward!

It’s standard medical procedure to give a dose of anti-bitoics via your IV during surgery. Doctors do this as a precaution against infection and becasue surgery is so tramatic for the body, it’s to help boos the immune system and encourage healing. I would talk to your doctor about your concerns (don’t be surprised by a strong negative reaction) perhaps they will allow you to forgo them if you feel that strongly. (Not likely) I have several friends who have also used homeopathic treatment in addition to standard medicine. I would consult a naturalpathic doctor like Dr. Jones-Farley in Lehi. She’s an MD who also uses homeopathy and natural medicine along with some western medicine. Your keifer and enzymes will also help with constipation which is another unpleasant side effects of the narcotics (pain meds) and anestesia (sp) Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Thank you everybody! I am, unfortunately, in Tennessee, so naturalpathic doctors are harder to come by.

I just had my 6th c-section (pelvic deformity, resulting from getting hit by a car, that didn’t resolve with chiropractic care or OFP) and I can attest to the green smoothies helping. Green smoothies will give you the necessary vitamin C to fight infection, iron to help your blood count after blood loss, and vitamin K to help with clotting. Another thing I did was to take probiotics and garlic capsules every day for a month leading up to surgery. I also took cranberry capsules to help with bladder tone but you probably aren’t concerned about that with your surgery. I was concerned about bladder injury during surgery and infection from the catheter I had to keep in for hours after surgery.
